The mission of the Commemorative Air Force's (CAF) Red Tail Squadron is to preserve and share the history and legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, America's first black military pilots. The Airmen served with distinction during WWII (and beyond). They overcame racism on the ground to fight fascism in the air, fighting for a country that turned a blind eye to policies and a large population that discriminated against these men and their families because of the color of their skin. The CAF Red Tail Squadron restored and flies a red-tailed P-51C Mustang such as the Airmen flew during WWII. The airplane appears at air shows in North America and at each stop her crew tells the story of the Airmen and how through persistence and courage they overcame huge obstacles in order to serve in the military. In 2011, the CAF Red Tail Squadron developed a traveling exhibit called "RISE ABOVE" to educate people - especially young people - about the Airmen and how they demonstrated the importance of setting goals and overcoming obstacles in order to succeed.

Hey batter, batter... Look up!


Take you’re midnight train to Georgia and come see us in Atlanta! The RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit is making tracks to Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves. Thanks to the good folks at KIA, we’ll be there Thursday, May 30 through Sunday, June 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. And of course admission to the exhibit is FREE!

The RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit will be a part of the inaugural Atlanta Braves Heritage Weekend. And it gets better! Be at the Braves game Friday, May 31st or Saturday, June 1st and experience a flyover by our very own P-51C Mustang.

Find us at Turner Field’s Monument Grove at 755 Hank Aaron Drive, Atlanta, 30315. Take me out to the ballgame!

And don’t forget we’ll be hanging out in the Big Easy on Saturday, May 25th thanks to the generous folks at Flightline First. This outstanding FBO located at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport will be presenting the exhibit in conjunction with the National WWII Museum.  If you’re in the area, stop by and see us at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport at 6001 Stars and Stripes Blvd., New Orleans, LA, 70126.

Take a peek inside the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit!


If you haven’t been to one of our RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit event stops, you need to get out the calendar and come see us!

As you step inside our decked out 53’ trailer, you’ll find our traveling immersion theater designed to educate the mind and invigorate the senses. Like a mobile ‘big screen’ theater, our exhibit features the original short film, RISE ABOVE, on a customized 160-degree panoramic screen. This dynamic theater experience lets you feel like you’re right there in the cockpit, soaring above the clouds, in your own P-51C Mustang. 35 folks can see this inspiring documentary comfortably seated in our air-conditioned trailer.  



Did you know that RISE ABOVE was created by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Adam White of Hemlock Films who specializes in aviation cinema?  This is the third time White has made a documentary featuring the story of the Tuskegee Airmen.  He said in an interview, “It’s been my privilege to meet and work with many of the Tuskegee Airmen while making Red Tail Reborn, Flight of the Red Tail, and now RISE ABOVE. I’m pleased to be part of the team that is ensuring that the dedication and accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen will not be forgotten.”  Additionally, The Restorers, a documentary about the restoration of vintage war planes, is also White’s creation, for which he earned his Emmy in 2005.  An interesting side note, White is a licensed pilot himself.

Kick off your Memorial Day weekend with us in New Orleans!


On Saturday May 25th the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit will make a stop in New Orleans, thanks to the generous folks at Flightline First. This outstanding FBO located at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport presents the exhibit in conjunction with the National WWII Museum.
  
In addition to the squadron’s P-51C Mustang fighter aircraft, the National WWII Museum’s mobile education vehicle, the Red Ball Express, will be on site with activities for kids. Large artifacts from the Museum collection will also be on view. And as always, visitors will be treated to the exciting original movie, “Rise Above” on our 160-degree panoramic screen, letting you feel the exhilaration of flying your own P-51C Mustang!
  
The display will be open by invitation only to school, church and youth groups from the 22nd to the 24th, and then open to the public on Saturday the 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free!  

This event will be held at Flightline First located at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport at 6001 Stars and Stripes Blvd., New Orleans, LA, 70126.
